To make home decor from paper towels, you do not need special skills and tools - this is an undoubted advantage of such a material. However, towels can not only be used for making crafts, but also replace many household appliances - for example, a coffee filter or a container for storing greens. It will be useful in the household and cardboard sleeve from a roll.
Unusual use of paper towels
It would seem that all options for using paper towels have long been known - they can damp moisture from hands or products, wipe spilled coffee from the table and ... and, perhaps, that's all. But human imagination allowed to expand the range of applications of these products.
Interesting ideas: use in the kitchen
Most often, towels replace filters for coffee makers - this becomes possible because the paper from which they are made allows water to pass through without getting wet and falling apart. It is enough to place a towel in the container through which the coffee passes, and at the exit you get a clean drink without the remains of coffee beans.
Also, paper towels will come in handy in the following cases:
- when storing greens and lettuce - so that they stay fresh longer, you need to wrap them in moist paper and refrigerate;
- when preparing asparagus in the microwave - so that it does not turn out to be dry or “rubber”, the stems should be wrapped with several layers of towels dipped in water;
- when softening lump cane sugar - if it dried out, turning into a kind of stone, it is enough to put the pieces in a glass container, cover with a damp towel and place in the microwave for 30 seconds.
Beauty: curls without curling iron
With the help of paper towels, you can wind your hair, while not at all injuring them. Those who are afraid to often use curling irons or curlers will certainly enjoy this method.
To get beautiful curls, you need:
- Wash your hair and dry it, but not completely, but so that it stays slightly moist.
- Divide the hair along the central parting into two equal parts, and then each of these parts into three more. Secure with rubber bands or hairpins.
- Unwind a few towels from the roll without disconnecting. The length of the paper “tape” should be equal to the length of the hair plus five centimeters. To get larger curls, the number of towels needs to be doubled, and for owners of very thick and thick hair - triple. In total, six such blanks will be needed.
- Take one part of the hair (the one that is closer to the forehead - it does not matter, right or left). Comb and divide into two identical locks. Next, take a “ribbon” of towels and crumple it in width, so that the result is a long strip. If it is double or triple, it should first be folded in two or three layers in length.
- After that, it's time to start wrapping up. A paper strip should be placed between two strands so that its end is 2-3 cm protruding upwards. Wrap a strip of one of the strands, then a second, but in the opposite direction. For example, if the first lock was rotated clockwise, then the second should be conducted against. This action must be repeated until the entire length of the strands is wound on a towel. Wrap the rest of the paper around the curled hair in the form of a skirt and secure with an elastic band.
- Starting from point 4, repeat the action with other parts of the hair.
Curls will form when the hair is completely dry. This can happen both naturally (in this case it is more convenient to do a wrap overnight), and with a hairdryer (then everything will take no more than 10-15 minutes, but after drying with hot air you need to give your hair an opportunity to cool down and only then unwind curls).
Crafts: basket for sweets, jewelry or cosmetics
Paper towels are a cheap and multifunctional material from which you can make various crafts.
The easiest way to make a basket for storing small items. In work will be used:
- any quick-drying transparent glue, as well as PVA;
- two round tassels;
- a deep bowl or flower pot;
- atomizer with water;
- cling film;
- towels.
Before you start making baskets, you need to prepare paper harnesses. To do this, two towels are torn off the roll, leaving them interconnected, moistened with a spray bottle, crumpled along the length into a thin strip, which is twisted into a bundle. The number of tows required to complete the job depends on the size of the plate that was chosen as the base.
Step-by-step instruction:
- A bowl or flower pot is turned upside down and covered with cling film.
- The tourniquet begins to twist in a spiral so that the center of the circle coincides with the center point of the bottom. When one harness ends, another is connected to it, smearing the joints with PVA glue. The work continues until the entire area of the base object is wrapped in plaits.
- To prevent the structure from breaking up, the gaps between the tows are filled with PVA glue and smeared with a brush, after which they leave the basket to dry.
- When the outer layer of glue has dried, the basket is removed from the base, the film is removed and the PVA is smeared from the inside. The inner layer also needs to be allowed to soak into the paper and dry.
- In a similar way, you can make a cover for the basket.
The finished basket can be decorated with napkins with a beautiful pattern. To do this, a layer with pictures is separated from the napkin and put it on top of the glue at the application stage on the outer part of the product. Immediately after this, the napkin is smoothed with a clean brush dipped in water, and after drying it is varnished.
Another option for decorating the basket - after drying the PVA, paint it with a stain, leave it to dry and varnish. This will give her a resemblance to vine products.
Why towel sleeves come in handy?
You should not throw cardboard bushes from towels - they will also be useful in everyday life.
- If you cut each cylinder into two or three parts, put them in a plastic tray and fill it with soil, you will get wonderful “cups” for growing seedlings.
- When you need to bake a round cake, but the house does not have a special shape, you can use a small-sized frying pan by placing a cardboard sleeve wrapped in foil or a baking sleeve in its center (this is necessary so that the dough does not stick to the cardboard).
- By making a longitudinal incision on the sleeve and putting it on a hanger, you can avoid the appearance of a crease on the trousers that will hang on it.
- It will be much more convenient and safer to transport knives and skewers if you place them inside a cardboard sleeve.
Products made from paper towels and sleeves have only one drawback - fragility. However, this can be considered their advantage - given the low cost of consumables, there is no problem in replacing them with similar, but already improved or modified ones over time.
